The Icing On The Cake
The icing on the cake is another important choice. The four popular icing choices for wedding cakes are butter cream, royal, traditional, and fondant. If using butter cream, please be mindful that it melts easy and has a short life-span. Royal icing, as opposed to butter cream, has a relatively unlimited shelf life. Royal icing is ideal for frosting Styrofoam cake to store as a keepsake. Fondant can accompany any cake topper since it is flat and smooth. If traditional icing is the frosting of choice, keep in mind that it needs to work with the cake topper. For instance, the Helpful Groom cake topper would not look the same with a decorative border of icing between him and his Reaching Bride. |

Cake Embellishments
With all of the choices available, you can really let your personality shine with wedding cake accessories! Some options include fruit, flowers, shells, fountains, stairs, jewels, ribbon, lights, cake toppers, and the cake serving set. If choosing flowers, let the florist know how the wedding cake and cake topper coordinate together so that he or she can create something that integrates well. If the cake topper is near the edge, such as the Whimsical Sitting Bride and Groom, then a tapering floral reef may be more suitable than a large bundle of flowers due to the cake topper's small height and orientation on the cake's edge.

Let Them Eat Cake
When you have made your selection, it is then time to cut the cake! When cutting the cake, be sure to first take off any non-edible cake decorations such as ribbon or jewels. Cut one piece of cake out of whichever layer you prefer for pictures, then deconstruct all of the cake layers before continuing the cake cutting. Removing each layer of cake will make the cake cutting easier and prevent any possible cake collapse. Bon appetit! |
