Registries: The Practical Choice For Today's Couples

With many couples choosing to live together before their wedding day, the completion of a bridal registry was one wedding component that had begun to fall by the wayside, until a recent resurgence breathed new life into this ritual. While they are still used for the loftier choices of china patterns and stemware, registries are more about couples choosing items particular to them that they wish to have in order to start their new life together.

Online bridal registries make it easy for out of town guests to choose a desired gift, or for couples who do not live near major retail centres, or near the store of their choice, to include a registry in their wedding plans.

If your guests tend to be of the less computer savvy nature, creating a registry at a local store that has additional locations near out of town guests is a better way of ensuring that your registry will stand a chance of being filled. It also gives you an onsite way to see, touch and possibly match up items in a way that is more difficult to discern if only seeing items online.

The ideal registry is one in which you can do both. Visit the store onsite to choose the items and see them firsthand and then register them or update them as needed online. A registry of this nature also offers your guest a better range of services.

When choosing items for your registry, the rule of thumb is to choose 25% more items than the number of guests you have invited, thereby giving guests a wide range of items to choose from. You should also choose from a variety of price points, or choose items that can be broken down, (ie. one place setting) to make it easier to appeal to a wider range of budgets.

Practical is the word of the day when guests are shopping for gifts or accessories for the modern couple. Take the guess work out of choosing a gift and ensure that your newlywed needs are met by offering your guests the practical choice of a bridal registry.
