That Old Black Magic

That old black magic certainly weaves its spell in the form a specialty rose that many brides look to as the penultimate bridal rose. Known as the Black Magic Rose, it has the perfect combination of color, texture and shape for many brides looking for a dark, rich and elegant rose.

While there has not yet been a cultivation of a jet black rose, the Black Magic Rose is a very close proximity due to its deep red color. Some people may dismiss the idea of a "black rose" being romantic, suggesting instead that black stands for death. Others have a different view of what the black rose represents: rebirth.

Instead of the death of an individual, many who choose to incorporate the Black Magic Rose into their wedding bouquets and arrangements agree, it symbolizes the death of old habits and a rebirth into a new life. A life they will share together.

In season from late spring to fall, the typical height of wedding season, these passionate and beautiful flowers are perfect for an evening wedding in a romantic setting.

These roses do have their downfall in certain situations. Because of the blues and intense reds that make up the deep color of the Black Magic rose, they can affect the sensors in digital cameras. They can also affect the colors of everything else in your photos. While this would not be an issue in a bridal bouquet against the white background of the bride's dress, it could be an issue against a dark bridesmaid's dress, tablecloth or other dark background.

Just be sure to mention what flowers you are choosing to your photographer well in advance so he/she can discuss with you the effects it will have on your photos.

If that old Black Magic still has you in its spell, look to other ways you can incorporate the Black Magic Rose into your wedding accessories. Print its image on your invitations, escort cards or favor cards. Use the image on a CD label that you give to guests as their wedding favor, or give individual roses as favors to each of the ladies present.

You can also incorporate it in song by making "That Old Black Magic" by Frank Sinatra your first dance, while you wistfully think of your favorite flower and your favorite man.
