Take Me Out To The Ball Game

Sports used to be the sole domain of men. Today, just as many women are active watchers and participants, a growing preference for themed weddings revolves around sports.

Regardless of which sport you choose there's a way to incorporate your favorite sport into your wedding plans. Whether you choose to add small embellishments and themed accessories or go for full-on theme integration, incorporating your sport-themed wedding idea is as easy as one, two, three.

First, set the tone with your invitations. If you don't want to choose the obvious "ball/puck" cutouts for your invitation, there are still many ways you can incorporate your theme while retaining the traditional elegance of white embossed invitations. One way to integrate your theme into a standard traditional invitation is by including a trading card that shows you and your fiance enjoying your favorite sport, with your stats listed on the back of the card. A great keepsake for guests, it also makes a great save-the-date reminder.

Secondly, choose a venue. One of the great things about a sport-themed wedding is the sheer number of venues available. Each without the long line-up of brides that are also looking to book it. Any neighborhood sporting field/arena will do with a quick call to your local Parks Department. Whether you host your ceremony at home plate, centre field or at the end of a red carpet at centre-ice, the only difficulty that may occur is if you are looking to hold your ceremony at a major sporting venue. Extra time, planning and consideration of sporting schedules will be required to ensure your game is on.

Thirdly, incorporate your theme into your wedding accessories and favors. Hand out wedding favors made up of pucks with wedding detailed labels, baseballs autographed by you and the groom, or tennis racket key chains.

Create centerpieces out of an upright bat placed on a piece of wood, decorated with flowers and greenery, miniature hockey sticks, or your ball of choice fixed high upon a pedestal.

Recreate your centerpieces to create a decorative guest book or cake table. Choose cake toppers that show where your passion lies. Whether it's a topper that shows a groom decked out in a tuxedo complete with hockey stick, golf club, or one that shows a traditional bride and groom within a circle of miniature baseballs, soccer balls, hockey pucks, the cake is one of the best places to incorporate your sporting theme.

If choosing a sports-themed wedding, make sure you have fun with it in the form of themed wedding attire. Whether it is baseball hats complete with a veil or personalized team jerseys with bride and groom emblazoned on the back, having fun is what it's all about. With so many unique ideas to choose from, having a sport-themed wedding is an original way to let your passions shine on your wedding day.
