Hats Off To Hats
Whether they are worn from a desire to return to some old fashioned roots, worn as a part of a theme, or worn from the simple desire to have protection from the elements, hats once again are in vogue.
Bridal couples with a hat-involved theme will often wear hats of their own choosing and ask that their guests do the same.
Those getting married on a golf course might have a visor theme, while those getting married at Disneyland may find themselves sporting matching Mickey and Minnie ears complete with top hat and sequined veil. A wide brimmed floppy sunhat for a spring or summer wedding, protecting the bride from the suns harsh rays, or cozy fur hats protecting both the bride and the groom from the cold in winter wedding.
Today, even guests are joining in the hat craze, but need to be cautioned that where there are hats, there are rules regarding the proper etiquette involved in the wearing of them such as the removal of ones hat during the meal. A rule that in today's more casual society is one that is very often ignored.
If you are running with the idea of inviting guests to doff their own hats to the wedding, or want to create a theme which revolves around hats, be sure to include hat-styled graphics on all wedding stationery, have a "mad-hatter's" styled wedding cake, or even incorporate hat-themed favors.
Another great hat accessory that can be created with your photographer's aid, are thank you cards made featuring your hat-garbed selves and guests. Simply gather your hat wearing guests altogether and take a picture en masse. For a little added fun, you may also want to have another picture taken of the entire group throwing their hats with abandon into the air.
If you're looking for a fun way to engage your guests in your wedding evoke the use of hats and receive a great big hats-off from your guests.
