Have Your Cake and Eat it Too

An old fashioned idea is once again gaining momentum on the wedding scene.  Where once it was all the rage to have a mock wedding cake on show while the real sheet cakes waited behind the scenes sliced and ready to go, weddings of late have looked more to having the real thing.  Until now.   With bridal couples looking to cut expenses wherever they can, mock cakes are once again making a resurgence as an option that allows them the visual appeal of a fabulous cake, without all of the expense that usually goes hand in hand.

One big advantages of using a mock cake includes the possibly that it is something you can rent rather than buy which would save you all manner of expense for a cake that few guests are known to eat.  It can also save you worry time spent devising ways to keep your cake or icing from spoiling or melting in the heat during a spring or summer wedding.  Choosing a mock cake over a real cake also lessens the worry you experience wondering if it will be damaged in transit on its way to your wedding locale.

But if having a real cake to cut into is something that you simply don't want to do without, the ultimate solution can be to having a real cake taste with a mock cake price tag is to simply combine the two and alternate between layers of real cake with layers of mock.  On a three tiered cake this combination could consist of a bottom cake that is the real cake you cut into, with two mock tiers there just for show.  After the cake cutting ceremony, out come your caterers with the pre-cut sheet cake and all of your guests are able to get the taste of the real cake, while having the visual of the mock cake.

Other couples choose a mock cake for the more pragmatic reason of needing the added support between layers.  On a similar three tier cake as described above, having all three layers as real cake can sometimes result in a sagging display due to the weight and/or combination of different types of cakes in each layer.  Having a mock layer lie between two real cakes, gives a grander look, while at the same time offering support.

Still another reason couples will choose to have a mock cake is simply for fun.  If cake is not high on their priorities as a must have accessory for their wedding, replaced instead by pie or some other form of dessert, a mock cake gives them an opportunity to have a little fun decorating it with items from their shared past, or gives them a favor holder that their guests can choose their favors from.

If a multi-tiered cake is something you have always liked the visual appeal of, but either can't afford the price tag of, or something you simply don't require to feed the number of guests you have invited, look to a mock cake to fill the spaces in between, which lets you have your cake and eat it too.
