If The Glove Fits

Gloves of any length not only add to the elegance of a wedding, they also have a long history of romance behind them.

A symbol of affection, a man who sent his true love a pair of gloves waited in anticipation for the moment he would see her wear them in public, declaring without words that his feelings were reciprocated.

Today that history is long forgotten, but the romantic air surrounding gloves is not.

When choosing wedding gloves, be sure to choose a more ornate lace and beaded glove to pair with a simple dress. Use a simple satin or matte sheened glove to pair with a more ornate dress. One should not overpower the other.

One of the biggest problems to overcome when deciding whether or not to wear gloves is how you will present your finger for the ring portion of the ceremony. Should the gloves be removed altogether? Or should the ring be placed on the gloved hand? Now a new innovation in wedding gloves has given new life to this traditional accessory and allows the bride to experience the best of both worlds. Ring fingerless gloves allow the bride to release her ring finger alone from the glove for her groom to place her ring upon. This latest design in wedding gloves also feature a cut out that features and allows space for the new ring so that it can be showcased comfortably once the glove is back in place.

Classified by length and measured in inches or buttons, one-button gloves start off just below the base of the palm and are usually chosen by brides with long sleeved dresses. Two button gloves are also called wristlets and rise to the bottom of the wrist, just beyond the one-button style.

A quarter-length glove that ends just below the elbow line is also termed a six-button glove, and an eight-button glove will reach all the way to the elbow. The most formal of all wedding gloves are the opera glove or sixteen-button glove. Reaching midway up the arm, past the elbow, this elegant style of glove is one that can formalize even the most informal of weddings.

Gloves accessorize and complement your wedding dress and in the case of a fall or winter wedding add a bit more warmth to your overall look.

As the saying goes...if the glove fits...wear it.
