Greening Your Transportation

Many bridal couples are looking for environmentally friendly ways to lessen the impact their wedding has on the earth.  One aspect of that involves looking at the transportation methods both you and your guests will use to arrive at your destination.

If your wedding is to be held in an urban area where most of the invited guests live, recommend that guests use public transportation to arrive at your wedding. Include schedules, maps and itineraries right in your wedding invitations that can help them find the nearest public transportation available.

If some of your guests live further afield, try matching guests up for car-pools. Not only will you reduce the carbon footprint guests will create in attending your wedding, you will also help ensure that your guests return home safely after a night of revelling.

One way you as a bridal couple can help your guests reduce their travelling time and their use of fossil fuels to get there is to have both your ceremony and reception in the same place, or at locations that are a short walking distance from one another.

Instead of getting in your cars to make the transition from one location to another - this way you can make a parade of the location change New Orleans style with music, colorful banners, and noise makers.

Still another way to decrease transportation emissions lies with you, yourselves.  Whether you choose fuel-efficient cars, have pedal-powered rickshaws hired to transport you and your wedding party, book a horse drawn carriage ride, or jump on a bicycle built for two, leading by example is one of the best ways you as a couple can encourage your guests to travel responsibly.

To add a touch of fun to the effort, challenge your guests to come up with unique transportation solutions, with a contest whose winner would be announced at the wedding. Gift the winner with an ecologically friendly favor slightly more gregarious that the rest of your guests favors.

Help make the transportation to and from your wedding, not only a green alternative for you and your fiancé but also a challenge for your guests to rise up and meet, and ensure that the only footprints you leave behind are the ones left on the walkways between your wedding venues.
