Looking Back
As you venture forth into your new life as a married couple, there are many ways to look back and honor the past at your wedding. Whether it's an event, a special someone, or a particular piece of your family history that you wish to commemorate.
To honor your culture or your heritage, look to the many different traditional symbols of your culture that can be incorporated in someway into your wedding. Whether it is wearing a piece of clothing or a family heirloom that has special meaning to you, serving a traditional recipe that has been passed down through the ages, or incorporating flowers that are particular to your family's country of origin in your bouquet or centerpieces, you can reflect your culture and heritage throughout many of your wedding accessories and decorations.
Wedding favors are another great venue for letting your culture or heritage shine through whether it is in the colors of the favor, the imprint or design on the favor boxes, bags, or even the individual favors themselves.
To honor your family, be they biological or part of a step-family dynamic, try digging a little into the history and traditions typical of each family. Choose a location of historical significance to them. Be it in the country where your parents or grandparents came from, the city where you were born or at a family farm or home that has been handed down from generation to generation.
When looking to your past you may also want to look at friendships that deserve honorable mention. Friends who have helped you get to where you are today and those who may no longer be with you, but whose memory is very much alive.
An interesting idea that honors the pasts of all of your guests, is to invite each of your guests to bring their own wedding photo to your reception. Provide simple mason jars or glass tumblers lined up on a table, for guests to insert their photos into and create an instant display that makes a wonderful tribute to the past.
To embrace all that has brought you to your wedding day, look back to your past and honor it as you step forward into your future.
