Extra Extra Special Programs Read All About It
Wedding programs can be little or they can be large. They can be grand works celebrating graphic art, or do it yourself triumphs created with a photocopier and computer. Before you decide which category your own will fall into, you first need to decide what purpose you hope to fulfil in having a wedding program in the first place.
For some couples, having a program of their wedding is a tool which helps them communicate to their guests their wedding itinerary and/or the significance of accessories or traditions incorporated into the ceremony.
For others, it's an opportunity to write short bios that introduce the key players and roles played by members of their wedding party, while still others will focus on its use as a keepsake or favor their guests can take home with them at the end of the day.
The only rules to be followed by wedding programs is that they traditionally will contain the full names of the bride and groom and all other salient wedding details including date, time and location.
Some novel ideas to incorporate into your wedding program that will set you on the road to creating an extra special program:
* Giving guests a step by step account of what they can expect from the moment they are seated at the ceremony to the time the bar closes, instead of just the standard ceremony fair.
* Including the lyrics of your wedding song, especially if the music holds a special significance to you and your groom, can help guests understand that significance. Take the idea one step further and include a brief explanation of why that particular piece means so much to you both.
* If the majority of your friends and family are spread far apart from one another and congregate only occasionally, you may want to include short bios of all your wedding party, with or without photos, in the vein of a theatrical program. This not only pays tribute to the special people standing by your side, it also can tell others why they were chosen to fill the coveted attendant roles in the first place.
* A significant story that led to this moment in time. For some couples the story of their engagement or their meeting is the stuff of which Hollywood Blockbusters are made of.
Whether you decide to create the programs yourself using scrapbooking techniques, your home computer and printer or hire a graphic designer to create them for you, a wedding program can be an integral part to keeping your guests in the know and ensuring they have a wonderful time.
