A Suit by Any Other Name…

When thinking of all the wedding accessories and details that need to be looked after, the one detail that is usually left to the groom and his attendants to sort out is the formal wear they will wear on the big day. But don’t be so sure the choice is simple. Today, when a man walks into a formal wear store a plethora of choices and confusion awaits.

Just like women’s fashion trends, tuxedos are taking a turn around on the runway. Differing from the customary hip length coat and boxy cut, today’s fashionable tux offers a slim silhouette with a shorter length coat and flat-front pants with or without a single pleat.

color is another road tuxedos are travelling down, but don’t worry powder blue has not made a comeback. The latest trends move away from basic black and head to rich chocolate and espresso shades. Add some pointed dark brown shoes to complete the look and you’re at the height of fashion. If you like the color in general, but are not sure you’re ready for an espresso tux, you can also use the trend of earthy shades like crimson, cinnamon, scarlet, magenta and tan on neckties and pocket squares.

If you prefer the classic black tuxedo, choose something with a little zip in the form of stripes. Choose subtle tone-on-tone variations, like black-on-black, or gray and silver pinstripes.

Remember your dad’s three-piece suit? Men’s fashion hits the same circle of time that women’s fashion does and today vests are, once again, at the forefront of formal wear fashion. Take a new twist on the old cummerbund by mixing and matching neutrals with saturated colors and patterns to add a little pizzazz.

If you’re dealing with a traditionalist who won’t go for the latest, then find the pizzazz in the details. Peak and notch lapels add elegance without living on the edge. A two or three button coat with a lay-down collared shirt may be as far as he’s willing to go, but you can usually sneak in a bit of color in a tiny pocket square.

With so many wedding accessories and details to look after, you may want one less on your plate, but unless you want that espresso tux with the magenta tie, you had better make this one more detail you have a say in.
