Make Time for the Memories
A little preplanning will go a long way when it comes to your wedding photographs.
The biggest mistake bridal couples make when planning their wedding photos is leaving them to the "leftover time" between ceremony and reception, instead of working with their photographer to create a realistic photo schedule. Often they underestimate that a good photo session may take a bit of time, especially when you consider all the various types of photos that people usually like to have done.
A lot of time is put into getting the location, lighting and poses correct. Time that can multiply with every change of location. Assuming your wedding party is of average size (two to three attendants each, along with a ring bearer and flower girl), you should budget one hour for the wedding party and other group shots including the parents and one hour soley for you and your groom. If your wedding party or your family is much larger, extra time will be needed.
Always schedule the photos with small children first, so that their parents (or adult responsible with looking after them if their parents are in the bridal party), can whisk them away once their photos are complete to have a rest or something to eat before the festivities begin later in the evening.
Next on the photo to do list should be those involving the groomsmen. They are usually the ones who are most anxious to get things done and get out of there. Cater to them and everyone will be happier.
If you have a large extended family, make a list before the actual day of what photos you would like with whom, that way no one is sure to be left out in the chaos that can surround a wedding shoot.
Stay hydrated throughout to maintain your “glow” all day long and keep powder and lip gloss close by for quick makeup touches.
If you have followed all of these tips and still the photos are taking longer than you had allowed, to the point that you might be late for your own reception… go ahead and be late. Supper can wait and your guests will wait for you. Long after the supper has been eaten and the cake has been cut only your cherished photographs will be what remains of the day. They’re the one wedding accessory that will last as long as your memories.
