Say a Little Prayer with Flags

A wedding is a very special time for all who are invited to witness the marriage of the bride and groom.  One way bridal couples are allowing guests to let them know just how special a time it is, is through the use of prayer flags.

Prayer flags are simply beautiful rectangles of cotton or polyester hung from a wire and decorated with poems, songs, prayers, invocations or special symbols. They are usually hung in sets of five, each flag a different color representing the different elements, then repeated. These beautiful banners are the perfect things to accessorize and highlight a wedding and they can be hung virtually anywhere.

Outside, inside, in the Great White North, or on a hot Mexican beach.  Their versatility is what makes them so universally loved. As a part of a ceremony, a prayer flag banner can be hung easily down the aisles or behind you as a backdrop while vows are being exchanged. Flags can be hung around tables for the reception, or just placed on the walls behind you as you dine.

To make your guests a part of the prayer flag ritual, small colored squares can be given to guests either through their invitations or when they walk in the door.  Instead of signing a guest book, they can simply sign their prayer flag instead, with a small wish for the bride and groom.

If sent along with the wedding invitations, guests can bring their flags to the wedding already decorated, or send them back in advance of the big day, in order to allow them to be strung up and used to decorate for the ceremony or reception, surrounding you with the prayers and good wishes of your family and friends, as you say your vows or take your first dance.

Centerpieces are another handy way to use prayer flags, by using them to circle the rim of a vase or container.  They are also a great way to organize guests by sorting the flags and the guests by specific colors.

Send prayers out to friends and family and receive them back over the wind on your special day with prayer flags that decorate as much as they commemorate.
