A Wine by Any other Name

An emerging wedding trend is the giving of wine as a wedding favor to thank wedding guests for their attendance. Wine created just for the day is adorned with a special label listing the specifics of the wedding. But not just any wine. Your wine. Created by your own hands as a gift to share with those you love. Or to be created by a close friend or family member who does so as a hobby.

Not only is it creative and personal, it can also be extremely economical and can be enjoyed at the engagement dinner, the wedding rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, stag parties and even the gift opening.

With a wide variety and selection of wines to choose from you can make a red, a white, a blush or a sparkling, or any combination thereof. You can make a sparkling wine as a drink to be opened for toasts, and a regular bottle of red, white or blush as a wedding favor. You could also choose to create a wine cooler for a refreshing summer-time beverage or a cider for a fall wedding.

With the help of home brewing stores, you can get advice on everything from the types of grapes that will suit you meal, to the types of bottle and labels that will suit your décor. They will also be able to help you decide just how many bottles you should make, with a rule of thumb stating that a half bottle of wine per person is a generally the accepted amount required.

If the wine is to be shared at the reception during dinner, you may want to give personalized wine stoppers as favors. Or carry on the wine theme, with graphics of wine bottle or glasses, emblazoned on your napkins or other personalized wedding accessories.

Making your own wine is a great accessory to add to your wedding and saving the last special bottle for your first anniversary, is a great way to relive some of the magic from the day.
