Here Ye, Here Ye A Medieval Themed Wedding
Period classic films such as Camelot, First Knight, Excalibur, etc. showcase a medieval era that is full of beauty and romance. To capture the feel of this era at your wedding there are a number of devices you can utilize that will transport your guests back to the time of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, beginning with your invitations.
For true authenticity invitations should be printed on parchment, rolled to look like a medieval scroll and sealed with a red wax seal made up of your initials, but true parchment can be difficult to work with, and might not work well in your printer if you are creating your own invitations. Instead you may want to choose a calligraphy font, comprised of rolling artistic letters that can be printed on cardstock that has a parchment look if not feel.
When it comes time to suggest a form of dressing for your guests that reflects your medieval theme, be sure to propose a palette of rich colors such as red, purple, royal blue and gold in equally rich sumptuous fabrics that are as fabulous to the touch as they are to the eye.
Bridal attire that follows a medieval theme should consist of an elegant drop-waisted gown in white, powder blue or crème satin, while attendants can either be garbed in colors similar to the guests or in silver to highlight their roles. Hair for both the bride and her ladies in waiting should be worn down (a traditional sign of virginity), with the brides hair containing an additional floral cygnet or crown embedded with jewels.
For the groom and his own attendants, who might be averse to wearing hose, knee length tunics and slim velvet pants, paired with leather knee boots and a cape will give them all a royal air that can be furthered by adding a crown to the groom's attire.
For your reception fare, look to buffet-styled food, including meats of every variety paired with fruits and cheese, heapingly served on silver platters and brought to each table to choose from. And of course all manner of drink, be it wine, water or ale, should be had by large silver or pottered goblets.
For favor ideas think of silver or pewter, or chocolate coins that fill a small velvety sack, to which you attach a tag filled with your wedding details.
While a cake shaped like a castle may be too cartoonish for your liking, an alternative is to use fresh garlands and flowers or fruit aplenty to give your simply designed cake a low tech elegant feel.
With love stories like that of Guinevere and King Arthur set upon the backdrop of Camelot as your guide, your medieval themed wedding can capture all the romance of the era and turn it into a wedding to be remembered.
