Papel Picado
Making cutouts out of tissue paper has long been a Mexican tradition. Known as papel de China, its origins may have come from the fleet of ships travelling the waterways between the Far East and Acapulco. But whatever its origins, this folk tradition is now one of the hottest trends in wedding decor.
Cut from colored tissue to resemble lace, or a series of mixed designs that include suns, faces, or flowers, modern day papel picado designs today are now being cut to include the names of the bride and groom complete with their wedding logo.
Designs that can be transformed into wedding invitations, program inserts or the more traditional papel picado banners that can stretch across a room, special occasion tent, or hung to personalize an outdoor setting.
Available in every color imaginable to complement your wedding decor, papel picado designs are now available in a new more modern variety of papers and materials including plastic and metal to increase the designs longevity factor.
In the case of banners each individual sheet can range in size from 6"x 9" upwards to the larger 14" x 18", and can be strung as long as 18 feet.
Each string of banners can be hung as a decoration and used at all of your wedding festivities, before during and after, including wedding showers, engagement parties, rehearsal dinners, and even gift openings which lends a unified air to all.
Each banner can also be used as a table runner, skirt or by separating the panels, even used as a decoration to house your wedding favors.
Wherever, whenever and however you choose to use your papel picado designs, they offer an inexpensive yet personal touch that honors a traditional folk arm form, all while giving you a beautiful and one of a kind decorative accessory for your wedding.
