Hallowed Weddings
Everyone has their own idea of what makes a special wedding day. For some bridal couples, it's by having their wedding on a day or holiday that they love. For some that could mean Valentines, the day of love, Christmas and all its magic, New Years as the day that best reflects new beginnings, or Halloween and all its gothic glory.
With many different levels to take your celebration to, here are a few ideas from the campy to the classy to get you started.
A Black Wedding Dress, while too extreme an idea for some, suits others to a tee. An elegant statement, a classic look, not to mention the slimming properties and dirt defying tendencies of black makes this the perfect choice for those looking for a stunning alternative.
Pumpkin Decor instead of the traditional scary face on a pumpkin, carve scenes of flowers, silhouettes of the bride and groom, artistic designs, or your joint initials to give your wedding an interesting accessory that doubles as a source of mood lighting when filled with the requisite candle. Miniature pumpkins can also be used in centerpiece composites, or as a graphic that is emblazoned on all wedding stationery from invitations, to favor cards. The bright orange color of pumpkins also makes for a great color theme for bridesmaid dresses, and looks wonderful with both black and white.
Think Halloween and you automatically think of candy. For a fun wedding favor, you can create a candy buffet with some Halloween classics like candy corn, and caramels, paired with Halloween treat bags for guests to fill. You can also leave the candy buffet available for guests to snack on and for a favor that follows the candy theme, have candied apples wrapped in cellophane and tagged with your wedding details.
While some weddings are an opportunity for simply the bridal group to step out of their normal personas, a Halloween themed wedding allows you to invite your guests to do the same. A "costumes welcomed" addition to your invitation, or masks made available when guests sign your guest book, add a fun masquerading element that works double as a fantastic ice breaker, as guests try to discover each other behind their masks or costumes.
Picking a theme as fun and workable as Halloween, allows for a wedding that will be the talk of the century, or the death of your more traditional family and friends. For a spooktacularly good time, look to Halloween as your holiday wedding day of choice.
