Corset Style Back in Fashion

While women of the past fought long and hard to rid themselves of the rigid structure and moulding form of a corset, brides of today are looking to the corset as a fashionable accent that mimics the look of the corset but not the discomfort.

While some may be lightly boned, few today offer the wearer any actual support but rather simply copies the eyelet back lace-ups and the traditional hourglass shape. Once thought of only as risqué lingerie, today's corset is not worn underneath the dress, as in years past, but rather out where everyone can see its beautiful design and details as the dress's main bodice.

For full-figured women who want to draw attention away from their bottom half, a corseted bodice paired with a full skirt draws eyes upwards and highlights the chest, neck and shoulders.

Styled with straps or without, worn over the bodice of the dress or as the bodice of the dress itself, many corsets can be created separate from the skirt of the dress itself, lending itself to the option of being worn again someday, unlike most wedding accessories.

Corsets can also be worn by bridal attendants in a similar style to the bride's and can be incorporated throughout the wedding day to follow a wide variety of themes.

Medieval weddings, weddings that go for that old Hollywood glamour of the 1940's, Moulin-rouge styled weddings or weddings with the look of the old west, can all incorporate a corset as a fashion accessory. Even if you aren't following one of those themes, the design of corseted dresses today, fit in with every theme.

If wanting to incorporate your corset look into your overall theme you can print a graphic corset on your wedding invitation and other wedding stationery to help guests understand your theme or lace up a folded invitation card in traditional corset style for a uniquely styled invitation.

For favors that follow your corset theme, look to corset shaped and iced cookies, corset sachets filled with sweet smelling potpourri, or a corset shaped photo holder that doubles as a place card holder.

While corsets may have originated in the 16th century, their alluring elegance has lingered on making them the most popular style of bodice for a wedding gown today.
