Fabulous Fondant

Rolled fondant icing is often the choice of brides-to-be for their wedding cakes. Drying to a smooth elegant matte finish, its surface is suitable for cakes of all shapes and sizes and is an excellent surface for additional designs, decorations and cake toppers.

Made from a simple sugar base, it is usually created and rolled to 1/8 inch thickness before being laid over the cake and trimmed to finish.

While some might find the actual taste of a fondant icing to be a little mild or bland for their tastes, there are a number of options available that allows fondant to be a viable alternative. The simplest is to apply flavouring directly into the icing. Shredded coconut, peppermint, French vanilla or any other favored flavouring is a quick and easy fix for this tasty dilemma.

Still not enjoying the taste of a fondant finish? Another delicious idea is to create a "crumb coat" between the cake layer and the fondant with a simple yet delicious butter cream icing. The icing allows your guests to see the elegant lines of the fondant while letting them simultaneously taste the delicious butter cream treat.

Fondant is also a wonderful way to create delicious wedding favor treats. Classic petit-fours with a fondant icing and tiny wrapped bow make elegant favors when wrapped in a beautiful personalized favor box and decorated with a matching bow.

While other styles of icings may be more flavourful than traditional fondant, its traditional elegance and super smooth finish makes this one icing simply fabulous.
