Charming Churches
When you choose to have your wedding ceremony in a lovely old church, chapel or cathedral, with its burnished wood, stained glass windows, elegant artwork and charming decor, very little is needed in the form of decoration other than a few altar flowers and pew bows.
Unfortunately with the more modern streamlined generic look of most newer churches, a little more in terms of decoration and accessories is required to achieve that charming and romantic air.
Start by focusing in on the one spot in the whole of the church that will garner the most attention, the altar where you stand for your vows. Create a sense of romance by placing an archway of flowers or tulle or a number of decorated candelabras with a plethora of candles in all shapes and sizes to create an air of romantic warmth.
The aisles and individual pews are next on your list for areas to decorate. Here again tulle is an easy, inexpensive fix that can connect pews together, leading guests eyes up the aisle to the centre of attention. To add that special touch to pews, add fresh flowers, fabric or ribboned bows.
Hang dainty elegant baskets on the end of each pew holding such small wedding favors as rice or bubbles, to send the happy couple away from the church. Use novelty tissue packages, either personalized with the bride and groom's details, or whimsically decorated, as a novel way for guests to dry their tears of joy.
Another idea to add to the charm of a church is to add an aisle runner up the centre aisle. Whether rolling out the red, white or other wedding themed color carpet, the addition of scattered real or silk flower petals is yet another way to light up the church with romance.
Take the time to decorate the place where you will truly be joined as one, and turn even the plainest of churches into a refuge of charm where romance and love fill the air.
