Let the Games Begin
While not your typical wedding activity, for those whose idea of a fun evening does not include dancing the night away, a night of board games or other activities may just hold the answer.
Small weddings are often the norm these days for individuals with a small family and circle of friends. While smaller weddings are more intimate and personal, they are also more difficult to hold a typical wedding dance for, due to their reduced numbers.
To combat this, many brides and grooms have begun to look beyond the typical wedding reception dance to other activities that will engage their guests and offer them as much fun, if not more.
Just as in the corporate world, where team building activities are the norm, many team building activities, work wonderfully when incorporated into a wedding, especially in the case where many of the bridal couples friends and family never have met before the wedding day.
To ensure the successful running of such an activity, it is a good idea beforehand to enlist or hire a particular individual to see that everything is set up and runs smoothly.
One such example of a wedding friendly team building activity is "True Colors" workshop. Based on the principle that every individual follows a certain pattern of characteristics that are represented by a color, and that by understanding a person's color you can learn to work with every personality, partaking in a true colors workshop is a fun way to break the ice and to get your guests mingling.
It is also an activity you can carry on with, throughout the wedding once every guest's particular color has been identified.
Allow guests to go through your buffet line, based on their colors, engage individuals to get up on the dance floor based on their colors, and created individual favors for each color that will ensure each guest comes away with a favor best suited to their particular personality type.
If holding a team building activity isn't your particular style, but you are still looking for an alternative to holding a dance, you can also run games, from card games to board games, as a way of engaging your guests.
Weddings are a time for new friends and family to meet, and get to know one another as they join in their support for the bridal couple. Knowing your guests, if you think that a dance might not be the best activity to engage them and allow them to have fun, don't be afraid to try something new. Something that will have guests smiling as they leave, saying "That was so unusual, but so much fun".
