Double the Dress, Double the Fun

If you dream of having a wonderfully frothy gown for your wedding ceremony, but also dream of having a wonderful relaxing time during your reception, you might want to take a page from an ancient Chinese tradition by exchanging your frothy gown for a more informal and relaxed Reception Dress.

With some traditional wedding dresses weighing upwards of 30lbs, it is easy to see why Brides choose to wear a second less cumbersome dress that they can freely dance the night away in. Some designers are starting to cater to this new trend.

A tradition more readily found of weddings with extravagant budgets, nowadays brides who want to get the most out of their wedding day are splitting the expense of one main dress into two less expensive dresses. Sometimes even going that extra mile and changing their hair, makeup and accessories to go with the new dress.

In the tradition of a Chinese Weddings, where the bride will constantly change her apparel throughout her wedding day celebrations, a full wedding day could consist of as many as three different looks. One, the white gown and veil worn to the ceremony, a second more elegant evening dress for the banquet, and a third cocktail-styled dress to dance and exit the reception in.

If two or even three separate dresses are a bit much for you, yet so is the 10 foot train that doesn't bustle, you might want to look to designers who create modular wedding dresses. Modifying their original designs, designers today are creating dresses with pieces that can be removed to create new looks that can help the bride transition throughout the evening. In a dress such as this, you might see the train removed after the ceremony to create an elegant dress in which to dine. The bottom portion of the dress removed after dinner creates a more easy flowing cocktail dress for dancing.

Whether you are bound and determined to get as much bang for your buck by wearing your single dress all day and night long, or you're looking to double your fun and double your dresses, as long as the dress(es) you choose allow you to enjoy your day, the rest is immaterial.
