Fanciful Fruit

Fruits are a nourishing staple of most wedding buffets, from stylish garnish, to tasty treats perfect for dipping in a chocolate fondue. Today however fruits are making their way out of the buffet and in to the center of the action, as a fun and fanciful decorative accent.

Use lemons and limes to fill a floral bowl and intersperse daisies or sunflowers for a cosy cottage feel. Or slice either or both of them and place them in the water of your flower vase for an interesting added visual below your flowers.

Often mistaken for a vegetable, you can also fill a fruityful pumpkin with autumn colored flowers or cut them ala jack-o-lantern style, with a fanciful pattern and fill with votives for a dramatic lighting display.

Even apples can make their mark as taper candle holders, additions to flower-filled baskets or as the base for a spectacular fruit pyramid. Originally designed by the French in the 17th and 18th centuries, fruit pyramids can be made in a variety of vessels and can be made to be eaten, or simply for display. While the edible variety can double as a tasty appetizer to your guests, it also can result in a tumbling display. To make your fruit pyramid a more lasting and stable display, all it takes is a healthy dose of warm caramel or water drizzled over the display before freezing to make it last.

While arranging fruits into fanciful displays requires a level of artistry on par with that of flower arranging, many florists are seeing the value of weaving fruit into their displays, as a way to make their designs even more dramatic and eye-appealing.

Fruits are even making its way into the wedding favor scene, as a healthy alternative. From apples, grown on the tree with your wedding logo stamped upon it to those created in the line of a candy apple, drizzled in chocolate or caramel, you can even wrap any large single piece of fruit in stamped tissue paper, as a display for your table or as a favor guests can pick from a basket, as a snack.

Fruits are a multi-purpose wedding accessory. Don't just leave it to languish on the buffet table, look to decorative designs and creative ideas to make your fruit and your wedding, more fanciful.
