Inventive Wedding Cake Displays

Most of the emphasis on a wedding cake display has always been on the wedding cake itself. Today that trend has evolved to a point where most bridal couples are choosing instead to have a simple and elegant cake, whose impact isn't created from layers upon layers of icing, but rather from the inventive display it is placed in.

One way of creating such a display is to start with the table itself by choosing a complementing yet contrasting table cloth for the table to ensure an immediate visual impact complement with the use ofornate servers. You can also go for an emotional impact by using an heirloom tablecloth that has been passed down from generation to generation, or through the use of an antique stand or servers that havebeen a wedding tradition in your family for years.

Decorating your table is yet another way to make an impact. You can also look to less traditional items to create equally impressive displays.  A themed wedding could hold items that fit your particular theme such as sea shells surrounding a pale blue cake simply iced for a beach themed wedding, or the use of themed confetti such as cowboy boot shaped confetti for a western wedding.

You can also create an impactful display by framing small photos of you and your fiancé and some of the special moments you have shared throughout the years, or by surrounding your cake with wedding photos of your family members.

Where you display your cake can sometimes be just as important as how. If your cake is to be on display throughout the reception, you will want to find it a spot that will not disrupt the flow of traffic around the room, or put it in danger of being knocked over.  You will also want to find it a spot that will enable guests to get a good view, and enable the cake to act as a decorative piece that adds to the overall ambiance of your reception decor.

Lighting a cake with specialty lighting affects is yet another way to create an impact but be careful to avoid direct lights whose heat can affect the consistency of the cake's icing.  A better choice is to use a gobo light, whose design can augment the cake's presentation without being in danger of damaging it.

For a truly impactful display, you can also keep the cake out of view throughout the reception, and only role it out for it's grand entrance where it can take centre stage as an event all of its own, using music and lighting to help create the mood.

A wedding cake is a work of art, and should be put on display as such.  Be sure to get the greatest impact for your cake by creating an impactful display for it that will leave your guests in awe.
