Stone Cold Creative
Like the earth from which they come, stones are everlasting and eternal which makes them the perfect decorating backdrop and wedding accessory.
Whether you are married in the woods beside a babbling brook, stream or river bank with stones surrounding you, at a mountainside chalet etched deep into rock, or on a beach littered with tiny pebbles, there are many ways to bring the outdoors in simply by utilizing stones and rocks.
One such way is to host a stone ceremony, whereby each guest is asked to bring a small stone from a meaningful place. During the ceremony guests are then asked to place their stone in a glass vase located between the bride and groom. As the vase fills up with stones, so too does it fill up with the love of your friends and family.
In addition to being earthy, organic and eternal, stones also make for the perfect wedding accessories and favors because they are easy, and inexpensive. Combine them with pillar candles on a plate or charger to create a simple yet elegant centerpiece or place them in a vase topped with branches or flowers.
Stones can also be used in place of traditional place cards, with each guests name written on a flat smooth stone, in paint or with a paint pen.
They can even be used, in a variation of the stone ceremony as a unorthodox guest book, as individuals write their names and comments on stones they have either brought with them or you provide, and then place them in the vase as a decorative piece the bride and groom can later take home with them to proudly display.
Stones can also be given to guests as favors, whether in a small velvet pouch or other container to take home as their own decorative addition, or as a precious stone they can use as a worry stone, or as the centerpiece of a piece of handmade jewellery.
Stones have a natural beauty, pureness and simplicity that makes them an ideal decorating tool, all that's needed is a little creativity.
