Taking to the Ice
If you are looking for a wedding that is a little less traditional and a lot more original, and you happen to be a die hard hockey fan, you might want to take your wedding to the ice.
Not recommended for those with a large wedding guest list, this, as with any sport themed wedding can run the gamut of something that simply makes a nod to your favorite sport through a hockey-stick themed groom's cake, to a full-fledged wedding held in your favorite arena, on ice and on skates.
Just as there is usually a bride's side and a groom's side to the ceremony venue, so too can there be a bride's team and a groom's team seated in opposite areas of the arena to cheer on the bride and groom as they "face off."
As for you and your intended spouse, and your attendants, depending on your level of skill, you may want to all don skates, and skate onto the ice, or simply roll out the red carpet and have all, including your officiate, walk onto the ice for the ceremony.
Should you decide on the skate-on version of your on-ice wedding, be sure to keep both you and your bridesmaid dresses of a shorter length so has not to make the event a dangerous one.
While the cost of renting the ice may be quite high, often an arena will also host banquet facilities that can be included in the cost, saving on transportation costs between your ceremony and reception venues, and giving a seamless cohesion to the event. If you are particularly lucky you may also be able to have such a room with windows that look out over the ice, giving an added touch of decor and ambiance without any additional costs.
If you are looking for a unique theme with endless ideas, and happen to be a huge hockey fan, take to the ice for a hockey wedding with style.
