The Gift of Time
Capturing your wedding in an encompassing capsule is one of the latest trends amongst today's brides. A new handy kit designed just for that purpose, makes the task even simpler.
Whether you choose the pre-formed kits, or a basket, tin, or container of your own choosing, amalgamating all those special memories into one container makes it easier to look back, and cherish those times both leading up to and on the exact day you were wed.
Get friends, family and attendants in on the fun. As well as including videos, photos and samples of your wedding favours and accessories, try to include a few personal notes as well. Make sure the capsule contains not only formal photos, but casual photos of your friends and relatives. Using the occasion of some pre-wedding parties as the perfect venues to snap some casual shots. Give participants a list of questions to answer or let them run free and wild with their own contributions, whichever best suits the vision you have in mind and the ultimate purpose of your time capsule. Then, perhaps at the gift opening following the wedding, or at the stroke of midnight of the day of the wedding itself, compile all the articles into one container. Agree on the date the container will be opened and seal it up with stickers, tape or glue to wait for its grand reopening.
When choosing a date upon which to revisit your time capsule, be sure to choose an anniversary that will hold some meaning for you, whether it be your first, your tenth, your twenty-fifth or your fiftieth. Keep the purpose for creating the capsule clear in your mind, before setting the date in stone. Be sure and resist the temptation of opening your capsule before the agreed upon date, and possibly leave yourself a note on the capsule itself reminding you why the opening date was special to you in the first place.
Not only a way of preserving your wedding memories, time capsules provide a glimpse into the thoughts and mindsets of our younger selves. They help us remember exactly why we fell in love and married in the first place, a gift in and of itself.
