The Light is Right
One of the most inexpensive yet dramatic effects you can create with lighting, require more than just the flicking of a light switch, especially if your wedding locale is an outdoor one. For evening outdoor weddings there are many alternative options.
Most popular on this list include the Tiki Torches, Hurricane Lanterns and Fire Pots that utilize oil, either citronella or regular, as their fuel for burning. The added benefit of using citronella oil is that while keeping mosquitoes and other flying pests at bay, you will fill your reception area with a wonderful citrus fragrance.
Fuel burning lanterns offer a stronger lighting effect than ordinary candles while still giving off that ambient lighting you're looking for. With high quality oils sometimes burning up to six hours, your time can be spent with your guests and each other, instead of worrying about whether or not your lighting choice will burn out.
Propane based lighting can also be utilized, either in individual lanterns or small imitation fire pits, which not only act as a dependable light source, but doubles as a heat source when there is the possibility of an evening chill in the air.
Solar powered lights are another way to light up your evening. While perfect for lighting paths or illuminating the edge of your reception area, the light that emanates from these environmentally friendly alternatives is too muted to be a reliable bright light source.
For larger lighting effects or to light up an outdoor reception that is being held in a tent, far away from any electrical outlets, you may decide the use of a generator is in order. Once a noisy and messy accessory, today's generators offer you a quieter cleaner alternative that can provide you with all the electricity you need to dance the night away.
Speak with your florist or the event coordinator at your reception venue well in advance of your wedding day, or hire an outside firm who specializes in lighting events for the most dramatic effect.
Whatever you decide, be sure that the light is right and that your lighting choices will help you make it through the night.
